So, I did my first triathalon this weekend. Crazy, huh?! It was awesome! I really enjoyed having the goal to motivate me to keep getting up early in the morning and exercise/train. The event was actually a "sprint" triathalon, so it was half the distance of a full tri. The whole thing was a .5 mile swim, 16 mile bike, and a 5K run. I knew I could do all those things individually, but one right after another was tough. The swimming was intimidating for me, but it went pretty well. In the middle of it I was thinking, "What am I doing here?" =) But, I finished and was on to the bike. I've really enjoyed cycling since training for this and would love to get my own someday. Bob was nice enough to let me borrow his. He was very supportive the whole way! Thanks Babe!
Bob and the kids made it to the event after I had started biking and here I am finishing up to the transition area to move on to the last event -- the run.
My legs felt like jell-o, but I was able to sprint a little at the end of the 5K. I made up a lot of time with the run and was able to finish in under 2 hours, which was my goal. My official time was 1:49: 48.
My friends Kathryn and Cherie also joined in on the fun. We play volleyball together every week. Initially, Kathryn had decided to do it and after she started to talk about it I got really interested and excited to do it. Thanks for the inspiration! It was awesome training and being with you gals!! The more the merrier, for sure. Now, we have plans to do a "super sprint" tri at the end of August with 3 other girlfriends!! We're animals, I know! =)
